Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture Honours 20 Bahamian Women in Sports

NASSAU, The Bahamas -- Minster of Youth, Sports and Culture the Hon. Lanisha Rolle led the accolades and recognition, on November 27, 2019, as her Ministry's Department of Sports honoured 20 Bahamian Women in Sports, in celebration of National Sports Heritage Month and National Women's Week.

Perfect landing for gymnastics meeting in Bahamas



The Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG), wrapped up a successful Executive and
Technical Committee Meetings in The Bahamas on July 23 rd , 2022–marking the first time
that FIG, the governing body of Gymnastics Worldwide, has held its annual meetings in The
Caribbean Region.
FIG’S President, Morinari Watanabe, was joined by 24 Administrators and Technical Staff for
the working meetings which were held at The Coral Towers, Atlantis on beautiful Paradise
Island, New Providence, The Bahamas. In hosting FIG’s 2022 annual meetings, Cora
Hepburn, President of the Gymnastics Federation of The Bahamas (GFB), said “While we are
not the largest of National Federations, there are many things we can offer our International
Colleagues,”. “The Bahamas is known around the world for our skills set in organization and
hospitality. So, this is what we offered our International Federation”. The GFB President also
pointed out that by hosting said meetings, the governing body was able to assess the
current national gymnastic program. It is hoped that the country benefits from FIG’s
technical and development support accordingly.
On July,22 FIG representatives toured the various gymnastics clubs on New Providence,
seeing first-hand the facilities and the caliber of athletes in each program. They were also
introduced to the Clubs summer programs. FIG was informed that the GFB is comprised of
private clubs with an additional club situated on Spanish Wells, Eleuthera. In this
connection, President Hepburn, advised that efforts are on the way to support Grand
Bahama Gymnastics, after the facilities were destroyed in Hurricane Dorian
FIG, the worldwide governing body of gymnastics, is the oldest international federation of
an Olympic Sport. It has competed at the Olympics since its modern revival in 1896 and still
stands amongst the top five Olympic Sports.
